New Project

After a few days, Ram, as was his routine, came home late from work. He was exhausted after the day’s work and he saw her sleeping in her nightdress. She looked bright, even at night!

It was a light blue nightdress, and she looked beautiful in it. He pulled up a chair silently next to her bed and sat close to her face. He cupped his chin and silently watched her face.

The room was upstairs and the breeze flowed in from the large window, aiding her into a peaceful sleep. In the moonlight, her face glowed more beautifully. She looked as lovely as the full moon in the sky. He was not able to take his eyes off the ‘bindi’ in between her eyebrows. He almost felt as if he were looking at a beautiful painting.

He felt relaxed now, as he walked away from there, to eat his dinner. Suddenly, he hiccuped, and found her behind him as she patted his head and gave him some water. He drank the water and asked when she had woken up.

She said, “I heard a sound from the kitchen and thought there might be a cat in there, so I came here,” she mocked. He wondered if she knew about his bedroom visit.

“Why are you restless these days? Anything important going on?” She asked.

“Important client meeting within a week and we have to prepare for that meeting. So, hectic schedule. You go and rest.”

She said, “It's okay. I'm not feeling sleepy right now.” After Ram had dinner, he started working on his laptop, and she took her laptop and drew a sketch on the device. After a few hours, Ram looked tired, and she made him some tea.

He asked, “Why do you suffer unnecessarily because of my work hours?”

She replied, “I am not feeling sleepy, and I made the tea for myself. You are also doing some work, so I made some for you also.”

He giggled, “Oh really?” and she blushed and said, “Hmm.”

After that, they continued their work, but within 20 minutes she dozed off in a seated position in bed. Ram went near her and closed the laptop and put it away. Then he patted her head, willing her to sleep comfortably.

“Idiot!” she said under her breath.

Ram thought she had woken up, but she was moaning in a deep sleep. He smiled and tried to leave. She pulled his hand and moaned “I'm sorry. I... I,” and she stopped groaning and entered into a deep sleep. He knew what she had wanted to say. Next day also, the same routine followed and she did some drawing on her laptop. Ram went near her, and she closed the picture.

Ram said, “Something fishy! Why did you close it when I came here?”

She replied “It's my wish. Why do I have to show you?”

Ram took the mouse and opened up the picture. Ram looked wretchedly at the image, as she burst into laughter. She had drawn him in the picture with a thin and
